Al Duhail’s Youssef al-Arabi has emerged as the top scorer with eight goals after four rounds of action in the QNB Stars League. His average of two goals per game is definitely commendable and stands proof of his talent. The Moroccan striker netted four goals in their last match against Al Ahli, which they won 6-1.
Al-Arabi was the top scorer in the previous season with 24 goals. In an interview, he spoke about his personal goals as well as his ambitions with Al Duhail, who are leading the standings with an all-win record and 12 points. Excerpts

What’s your take on Duhail’s league campaign so far?

I’m very happy with such a good start by our side. Four games… four wins.

How do you feel being
the top scorer?

I’m very comfortable with scoring goals as I contribute to the team’s victories.

What’s your ambition with
Al Duhail this season?

Winning the QNB Stars League title and making good progress in the AFC Champions League are my main ambitions. In the previous season, we were knocked out of the Champions League due to some minor mistakes, but our team is better and stronger this time.

Are you looking forward to become the top scorer again?
Yes, I’ll do my best. I would like to score more goals this season, given that I had missed nine matches last year due to injury.

Did you expect to score four goals against Al Ahli?
We’ve some very good players and when I get excellent support from them, I do expect to score goals.

Who’re the players who’ve caught your attention?
A lot of players, such as my teammates Youssef Msakny and Nam Tae-Hee, Abderrazzak Hamdellah and Sebastian Soria of Al Rayyan, and Baghdad Bounedjah of Al Sadd.

Do Duhail have the potential to keep the league title?
Yes, this team has the potential to defend the title and that’s our main target.

Sadd and Rayyan are strong contenders for the league
title. Does this fact worry you?

Yes. These three teams are the best in the league and the competition between them will be very tough.

How do you feel playing in the QNB Stars League?
I’m really happy and satisfied playing in the QNB Stars League. I look forward to see the fans supporting us more and more.  (QSL)
