The Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation (QCTF) have included triathlon (swimming, cycling and running), mountain and Criterium races in the new season, which will officially be launched on Friday, October 13.
A test event for the season, which will run till May 9, 2018, and have 10 stages, was held on Friday at Al Thakira Youth Center.  The test event, which saw 115 cyclists take in a 61km two-lap race, had three categories for men and two for women. The next mountain bike race is scheduled for Friday at Al Kheesa.
In the first category, David Nicholas secured the top spot in time of 1 hour 35 minutes and 06 seconds. Qatari national team rider Ahmed ElBourdainy picked up silver, while Mohamed Farhan al-Farizi finished third.
Lain Garnell from team Rasen Velostar won the second category, finishing in 1:46:56, while teammate David Jones won silver, ahead of Khalid Hammouda from Qatar national junior team.
The largest number of cyclists and junior team of Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation participated in the third category.
Walberto De La Cruz took first position and finished in 1:52:46. Zaid Hamza from Qatar national junior team was second and Mohamed Nabhan third.
“The Board of Directors of QCTF have discussed the agenda of (2017-2018) sports season. Fans will get to see a number of cycling and triathlon events, including road race and mountain bike events, in the new season. The federation has paid much attention on triathlon events and is encouraged to see the rise in the number of new participants. The federation also encourages and support riders to participate in international triathlon events,” QCTF general secretary Jamal al-Kuwari said.
