This weekend, the final phase of the first padel tournament will be held at Qatar Sports Club facilities, organised by Padel Qatar, the pioneer of this sport club in the country.
Eight pairs of players will fight to reach the final in the silver division, after winning the first phase of the tournament that took place last weekend. Up to this point of the competition nine Qatar players are still looking for the finals, which guarantees the Qatar’s presence on the podium. In addition, the start of the gold division will be the highlight of this event, the best padel players in Qatar will be fighting for a place in the final that will take place tomorrow at 9pm.
This division is formed by eight teams, among which are six Qatari nationals. This is the first Padel tournament of the season and also in Qatar history.
Since last June Doha has two padel courts, located in the outdoor area of Qatar Sports Club, where a large number of Qataris and expats are enjoying this sport every day.
Padel is a unique racquet sport typically played in doubles on an enclosed court, a third the size of a tennis court. Scoring is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are similar but with a little less pressure.
The main differences are that the court has walls (methacrylate usually) where the balls can be played off them in a similar way as the in the game of squash and that players use solid, stringless racquets.
It is easy to pick up and enjoy from day one but sophisticated enough to keep you learning and pushing yourself to become a master player.
Padel is for everyone, embracing all genders, ages and levels of fitness. For these reasons, Padel is a very popular sport all around the world and it is considered the fastest growing sport.
