The Cabinet has permitted Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) to take the necessary measures to set up, in co-ordination with the entities concerned, tourism companies in the country.
The decision was taken at the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, chaired by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani at the Emiri Diwan, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The move comes as multiple efforts are under way to boost Qatar’s tourism sector and attract visitors from around the world.
Lauding these efforts, United Nations World Tourism Organisation secretary-general Taleb Rifai yesterday praised the recent measures taken by Qatar to develop a sustainable tourism sector.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet yesterday reviewed the second report on the results of the work of the national committee for civil aviation security for the period between December 1, 2016 and June 4, 2017.
The Cabinet praised the “qualitative leap” the State has achieved in the field of civil aviation security based on the report submitted.
The results of the security audit for Qatar, done by the International Civil Aviation Organisation for the period extending from February 6 to 13, 2017, revealed that the State obtained a score of 99.1% on the implementation of the Annex 17 standards for civil aviation security, 96.76% for the implementation of vital elements related to civil aviation security and 100% in the application of the security standards mentioned in Annex 9 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation on facilitation.
The Cabinet approved the enforcement of Law No. 24 on retirement and pensions for Qatari workers at Losail Circuit Sports Club.
The meeting also gave its nod to a draft memorandum of understanding on co-operation in the legal field between the Ministries of Justice of Qatar and Vietnam.
Further, it approved a twinning agreement between Doha Municipality and the San Salvador Municipality in El Salvador.
In another development, the Cabinet reviewed and took decisions on a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and chairman of the Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilisations on the yearly report regarding the implementation of Qatar’s plan for the Alliance of Civilisations for 2016.
