Following the scattered to heavy rain experienced at some parts of Qatar on Tuesday, the Met Office has forecast chances of light to thundery rain on Wednesday also over some areas.

While strong wind at time during thundery rain formation is expected inshore, the offshore forecast is strong wind and high seas to the east.

Climate records show that rains have been observed over some areas of the country during August in the past, the Qatar Meteorological Department pointed out in a detailed weather report.

The report explained that satellite images and weather charts show widespread cloud cover Central Arabian Peninsula due to the passage of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) over the region.

ITCZ is a convergence line between northwesterly wind and easterly moist wind that cause rising currents of air leading to formations of convective rainy clouds.

In addition to the passage of ITCZ over the region, the weather balloon launched from Hamad International Airport on Tuesday dawn indicated the presence of relative cold advection in the upper levels of the atmosphere, which helped the formation of thundery clouds with scattered light to moderate rain.

The maximum temperature expected on Wednesday is 41C (Mesaieed, Wakrah, Doha, Abu Samra), followed by 40C (Al Khor, Dukhan) and 38C ( Ruwais). The minimum temperature of 32C is forecast at Abu Samra, followed by 33C (Al Khor, Ruwais, Dukhan) and 34C (Mesaieed, Wakrah, Doha).
