Iraqi Kurdistan companies are keen on entering the Qatari market, an official of Qatar Chamber has announced.
In a recent visit to Iraqi Kurdistan, Qatar Chamber vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari held meetings with Dr Najmaldin Karim, the current governor of Kirkuk Governorate in Iraq, and officials of the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including several Iraqi businessmen.
Al-Kuwari said the meetings discussed trade relations and investment cooperation between the Qatari and Iraqi private sectors. The meeting also focused on ways to enhance trade exchange and establish alliances between businessmen from the two countries.
The visit also included a tour of a several Iraqi universities and factories where investment opportunities in the Iraqi education and industry sectors were also discussed, including cooperation in the oil and gas, industrial, agriculture, and food security sectors.
According to al-Kuwari, the Iraqi side called for the strengthening of trade and investment cooperation relations with Qatar. He said Qatari businessmen were also invited to invest in Iraqi Kurdistan, which offers many attractive investment opportunities.
He said many of the opportunities related to food security were presented during the 
meeting. 
The Kurdistan region of Iraq is famous for high-quality vegetables and fruits with fertile soil and suitable weather. 
“Many Iraqi companies expressed their desire to identify the Qatari market and find a foothold in it where the products are characterised by high quality and competitive prices.
“Emphasis was placed on the attractive investment climate in Iraqi Kurdistan along with security and safety, as well as the development of legislation and laws that serve investment and give investors great advantages,” al-Kuwari pointed out.
Al-Kuwari said Sulaymaniyah is located close to the Iraqi border with both Iran and Turkey “and is witnessing an active trading community, making it an attractive investment environment.”
“Iraqi officials welcomed Qatari investments and assured that they wanted to see Qatari investments in Iraq. They also said Qatar has a special status in Iraq,” al-Kuwari added.
