The chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri called on the US administration to separate rights and humanitarian aspects of the siege imposed by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain on the State of Qatar for more than a month.
In an interview with Al Sharq newspaper, al-Marri called on the US to pay attention to the humanitarian aspect of the victims of the siege away from the political, economic and military interests that bind it to the GCC countries.
Regarding the number of cases of human rights violations and the affected segments during the siege, al-Marri said: "When we talk about the 2,939 complaints received by the NHRC, there are also matters related to family reunification and complaints concerning the right to education, health, freedom of movement and freedom of practicing religious rites."
Human and right issues should be separated from the political crisis, he stressed.
Al-Marri said that the statements of the US State Department since the beginning of the crisis dealt only with the political aspect and did not address the human rights aspect.
