Supporters of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) chant slogans during a protest rally in support of a separate Gorkhaland state in Sukna village yesterday. The hill resort of Darjeeling has been rattled at the height of tourist season after violent clashes broke out between police and hundreds of protesters of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM)  -  a long-simmering separatist movement that has long called for a separate state for ethnic Gorkhas in West Bengal. The GJM wants a new, separate state of ‘Gorkhaland’ carved out of eastern West Bengal state, of which Darjeeling is a part.
