Rota hosts Iftar for construction workers.
Education Above All (EAA) foundation, through its programme Reach Out To Asia (Rota) recently hosted an Iftar for construction workers of the Gulf Contracting Company as a token of appreciation for their contributions to Rota’s Reach Into Qatar Project.Aiming to transform the living conditions of underprivileged families living across Qatar, the project facilitates completion of full family-home makeovers, while offering national and non-national youth volunteers the opportunity to provide engaging community service support. The Iftar was delivered to 100 construction workers by 40 Rota volunteers. This is the third Iftar organised by Rota this Ramadan for local construction workers – the first was hosted for Al Shamal Municipality labourers and the second for Al Khor Municipality labourers. Rota’s community Iftars present a unique opportunity for volunteers to actively engage with labourers and through open and respectful communication, learn about their lives and families while sharing their own stories. Moreover, the symbolic act of sharing Iftar represents a gesture of gratitude and acknowledgement to these labourers for their hard work and contribution to Qatari society. Rota activities have an established reputation for bridging the gaps between different communities in Qatar while building a strong culture of dedicated community service among volunteers.Mohamed Saleh, national programmes director, EAA, said: “For the eleventh year in a row, Reach Out to Asia continues to extend assistance to local communities and workers in recognition of their contribution to the prosperity of our society. I am thankful for the enthusiasm and commitment of our volunteers who share a common interest in giving back and are aware of the importance of engaging with all segments of society.”
