Some 98,700 people, including orphans, disabled people, poor families and other needy groups, have benefitted from Qatar Charity’s (QC) ‘breaking of the fast’ and food basket projects.

In a statement, QC said it distributed 8,030 out of 12,258 breakfast meals for families from the start up to the sixth day of Ramadan as part of its ‘fast breaking’ project. One meal is enough for four people.
QC noted that more than 56,000 people, including orphans, poor families and the handicapped, are expected to benefit from its Iftar meals. Meals will be distributed to the marginalised areas in the Gaza Strip.
Funded by Qatar Development Fund, the Welfare Association also launched the Group Iftar that benefitted orphans as part of the Wajd programme.
Some 37 local institutions took part in the distribution of the meals throughout the five governorates of the Gaza Strip.
The programme included the delivery of meals to 5,273 families, sponsored by QC’s office in Gaza, in addition to 1,800 families who are not sponsored.
During the breaking of the fast, including a number of recreational activities and gift distribution, the children’s mothers said they enjoyed such undertaking, which strengthens the social ties between the families of orphans.
Poor families also thanked QC for supporting and providing fresh meals to the Palestinian people, as well as to other needy groups.
The beneficiaries stressed the need to continue such efforts to improve the lives of Palestinians who have been under siege for 11 consecutive years.
QC’s office in the Gaza Strip continues to implement the food basket project during the holy month of Ramadan for the year 2017-1438H. It is expected to benefit 6,100 families (around 42,700 people).
Mohamed Abu Haloub, office director of QC in Gaza, vowed to implement the two projects annually, which aims to help poor families and meet their needs.
He said they also aim to support families by alleviating their health and living conditions.
Haloub stressed that their ongoing projects focuses on taking care of the poor and the needy families, as well as on the development projects that serve the Palestinian public interest.
QC’s seasonal projects pay attention to the countries, which suffer from crises and exceptional situations, such as Palestine. It also has high rates of poverty and unemployment.
