Kangana Ranaut has a committed following who believe that she is the model of what an independent, creative and courageous woman should be in a man’s world. And her actions are generally in line with keeping up that image. But there have been equally negative reports which don’t get attention because Kangana is a darling of the media. The controversy she finds herself now is taking credit where it is not due. Her next film Simran is going to be released in a few months and its teasers and posters are out.
What many have noticed is that Kangana’s name also comes in the credits as an additional writer. In fact, in the poster her name came before that of the movie’s main writer Apurva Asrani. She has also been telling the media how she had shaped the story. Asrani however, challenged that in a lengthy Facebook post. He said that the placement of names in the credits was not such a big issue for him, instead he was puzzled about Kangana claiming that she had developed the bare bones idea from a thriller to a fun movie.
He wrote, ‘This completely discredits me and my efforts, and I have to call out this lie…’ He said the movie was always conceived as a fun film because he himself wanted a break from intense movies after scripting Aligarh and had written nine drafts of Simran. He said both Kangana and the director Hansal Mehta had been happy with the final script and remained true to it.
Kangana had improvised the dialogues a little and he had liked what she did. But then he was told that Kangana wants credit as a co-writer and he refused to finally relent to let her name go as additional writer. And that he has been shocked to see her credit before his in the poster.
