Last season’s Leading Owner, Champion Trainer and Champion Jockey had a great day at the office, with Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari’s Caid De L’Ardus sprinting to an impressive six-length victory in the Fuweiret Cup at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC)  dirt track yesterday.
The Purebred Arabians Conditions feature saw Jassim Ghazali’s ward register his third victory this season with Harry Bentley riding the five-year-old to a big win in the six-furlong run.
Hamad al-Jehani’s ward Lucky Sand was second under Jean Baptiste Hamel, while Ghazali charge Istibdad, ridden by Richard Mullen, completed the podium.
The fifth race of the day saw Ghazali and Bentley combine for a victory for the second time on the day, with the Briton helming Injaaz Stud’s Al Marboush in a stunning run in the Purebred Arabian Conditions event yesterday.
The grey son of Amer adjusted well to a six-furlong sprint, having finished runner-up over 1900m a week ago, and won by an impressive five lengths.
Mubarak al-Khayarin-trained Ali Baba ensured that Injaaz Stud swept the top two spots with JP Guillambert riding the six-year-old to a second-place finish, ahead of Mohamed Hussain-saddled Qassy.
Jockey Tomas Lukasek picked up two victories on the day, guiding Hadi al-Ramzani’s Nu Form Fire and Hamad al-Khayarin’s Disco Inferno to top spots in their respective races.
Nu Form Fire registered his third career victory, winning the Class 6 Thoroughbred Classified Stakes for horses rated 65 and below.
Ghazali’s Stars N Angels registered her best finish when JP Guillambert helmed her to second place, while Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim rode Owaida al-Hajri-trained Tijan to a close third.
Disco Inferno tasted victory for the first time since February 2015, with Lukasek guiding the seven-year-old to a three-length victory ahead of Al Shaqab Racing’s Dheban, trained by Ibrahim al-Malki and ridden by Marvin Suerland.
Salem al-Hajri’s Al Hazam finished third for the second straight time.
Earlier in the day, two horses from the owner-trainer combine of al-Kuwari and Ghazali shed their maiden status with Tadgh O’Shea riding Al Ashqar to his first career win in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event, and Bentley guiding Al Mansab to victory in the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate event.
