The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will start work on the Al Bustan road later this year, an official said yesterday.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the opening of G-Ring Road, Abdulla Hamad al-Attiyah, assistant president at Ashghal, said, “We will announce the details soon and the project will start this year. We expect to complete it before 2022 and it will be ready for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.”
Al Bustan Road will run parallel to February 22 Street - in both directions - and help reduce heavy traffic on the busy road.
“Our plan is to take care of construction plans for the ongoing road projects we have now. We plan to complete about 80% of the construction by next year. Then, we have new projects such as the Al Bustan corridor, which will run parallel to 22 February Street,” explained al-Attiyah.
“The road will have four lanes each in both directions. The name of the road is not yet finalised. The road will meet with the Expressway at Landmark (mall). This will massively reduce traffic on the Expressway,” he said, adding, “The road will ensure the free  flow of vehicles as there will be no interchanges all through the stretch. We will soon announce the details of the entire project.”
Regarding G-Ring Road, al-Attiyah said, “Cycle way and pedestrian way are two important components of the new road. These two components are incorporated in the new road to make sure that people have access to all types of transportation. There is also room for great landscaping on the new road.”
The official also highlighted that the new road ensures better connectivity all around the country and cuts down travel time to various areas significantly.
“The road will take you all the way from Hamad International Airport to the Orbital Highway and beyond in little time. In several parts, the travel time will be reduced by 50% and in some areas it can be cut down up to 60-70%. It will also result in easy access to Saudi Arabia, Dukhan and Lusail, among other places,” he added.
