The Indonesian community in Qatar, in collaboration with the Indonesian embassy, organised its 2017 Badminton Championship recently. The tournament was attended by Indonesian ambassador Air Marshal (Retd) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi and Chairman of Indonesian Community in Qatar (Permiqa), Edwin Kurniawan. 
Ambassador Basri welcomed and appreciated the tournament held by Permiqa, particularly at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. 
“The tournament promotes socio-cultural diplomacy in Qatar,” said the former Indonesian Member of Parliament.  Edwin said the championship is to facilitate the activities of the Indonesian community and expatriates from various countries to meet each other.
The tournament also featured traditional dances from various Indonesian provinces, presented by children of the Indonesian expatriates working in Qatar. 
According to Indonesian Embassy’s Minister Counsellor, Boy Dharmawan, the championship not only promoted sports, but was also an opportunity for Indonesian community to showcase a variety of exciting traditional cuisines to the expatriates. Various tables provided Indonesian cuisine from various provinces, such as satay, tofu cake, soto, somay, bakwan, rendang, Indonesian traditional cake, bakwan and bakso.
