Qatar University (QU) will co-host the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) Forum 2017 on March 13 and 14 with the theme ‘Excellence as the university driving force’, it was announced yesterday.
“The aim is to provide a platform to discuss the various aspects of academic excellence, and to learn about new initiatives in academic rankings,” said QU chief strategy and development officer Dr Darwish al-Emadi.
The conference is organised in collaboration with the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence. Keynote speakers are QU Board of Regents member and Economic Adviser at Emiri Diwan Ibrahim al-Ibrahim and The World Bank Lead Global Solutions Group on Tertiary Education and Lead Education Specialist for India Francisco Marmolejo.
A number of presentations are to be delivered by speakers from countries such as Qatar, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkey, the UAE, the UK and the US.
IREG Observatory managing director Dr Kazimierz Bilanow said his organisation is recognising the growing importance of Qatar and other Gulf countries on the global landscape of higher education and research.
