Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) has donated a digital library to Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Mental Health Service as part of its socio-psychological support programme, which aims to help treat mental illnesses.
The new library consists of six computers with educational and informative materials in various fields of knowledge that will aid the centre to treat 80 in-patients.
In a statement, QRCS said this will be the third digital library it donated to HMC, with two libraries already installed at the Paediatric Emergency Centre and Fahad bin
Jassim Kidney Centre.
“QRCS tends to sensitive groups of the local community, notably patients with chronic and endemic diseases like mental illnesses, which require special care from society, particularly non-governmental organisations and charities,” social development department director Rashid Saad al-Mohannadi said.
“QRCS is leading in this respect. A series of digital libraries have been inaugurated at HMC to make the patients feel better,” he added. “These machines will be available 24/7 to serve the patients.”
Al-Mohannadi vowed to provide HMC facilities with digital libraries, under the strong bilateral partnership in medical, awareness, and social
activities.
“We were delighted to receive such donation from QRCS. This will enable many of our 80 in-patients and residents to communicate with families, seek information and provide feedback about the services they receive,” HMC’s mental health service chief executive Dr Iain Tulley said.
“Such donation is a strong symbol of partnership in supporting people with mental health problems here in Qatar,” Tulley added.
