The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has launched a new initiative, which involves planting 1,000 seedlings of the Almarkh plant in the countryside.
The new environmental initiative is aimed at preserving the plant, the MME said in a post on Twitter yesterday.
The ministry is also conducting the “local animal products event” at Al Mazrouah yard. The event started yesterday and continues until tomorrow, running from 7am to 5pm.
Meanwhile, the Islands and Beaches Department conducted a cleanup campaign at Al Khor beach recently. Garbage and refuse materials were removed from the area as part of the drive.
Besides, the cleanup initiative covered the Sealine beach, Al Khor fishing and navigation ports, and Doha Corniche area. 
The ministry also informed that the gardens section at Doha Municipality beautified Al Jaidah roundabout, planting various types of flowers and decorative plants at the spot. 
In another development, the MME’s Wildlife and Environmental Protection patrols found a tanker discharging sewage at an undesignated spot in the Al Thamid area. Necessary legal procedures were initiated in the case.
Doha Municipality’s Health Control Section conducted an inspection campaign at food establishments within its jurisdiction and found a meat shop in Madinat Khalifa South storing foodstuff in unhealthy conditions. Pungent smell was emanating from refrigerators where meat products were stored, it was found during the inspection. The outlet was issued a violation report for flouting Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control. 
Besides, a nuts shop on Old Airport Road was issued a report for violating the same law after inspectors saw rotten pistachio on display.
