Iraqi President Fouad Massoum said on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump's immigration order banning Iraqis from entering the country was a "shock" and called on Washington to reconsider the measure.
"Listing the name of Iraq among the countries whose citizens are banned from travelling to the US has constituted a shock for us," Mossam said in a statement, according to independent Iraqi website Alsumaria News.
"I call on the US administration to reconsider its decision."
Massoum said that Iraq was fighting terrorism "on behalf of the world including the US."
The US is a major military ally of Iraq in its ongoing campaign aimed at dislodging the Islamic State extremist militia from its territory.
Trump's executive order, issued last Friday, bans the entry of citizens from the Muslim-majority countries of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Yemen.
He also suspended refugee admissions.
Trump said the measures were needed to protect the US against "radical Islamic terrorists."
