Nominations are now open for the fourth Oryx GTL Student Awards for the Advancement of Post-Graduate Education in Qatar.
The awards recognise outstanding Masters and PhD students in the energy field who are instrumental to the country’s transformation into a knowledge economy in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.  
February 23 is the deadline for nominations for the awards, the organisers have said in a press statement.
The awards highlight the importance of building a larger and stronger post-graduate community of energy specialists in Qatar. Oryx GTL is welcoming high-quality nominations from stakeholders and students in industry and academia, along with an explanation of how the candidate’s research supports
Qatar’s national goals.  
“We are delighted to call for nominations for the awards and look forward to exploring the potential of the Qatar’s youth, who are eager to learn and contribute to Qatar’s national growth,” said Khloud Mohamed,
ITT manager, Oryx GTL.
“The Oryx GTL Student Awards represent a unique opportunity to support the exceptional graduate students in Qatar,” said Dr Nimir Elbashir, chair of the Oryx GTL Excellence Programme, director of the Gas & Fuels Research Centre and professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar.

The PhD award criteria are as follows: Qatari national or Qatari-based and Qatar-educated for a period of 10 consecutive years, near-completion of PhD or a recent PhD graduate in an energy-related field, demonstrating potential to be a future thought leader in the energy industry in Qatar, PhD dissertation should be relevant to Qatar, extra weight given to doctorate research that would have a clear impact on the advancement of industry, and demonstrating an intention of working in Qatar.
The Masters award criteria are Qatari national or Qatar-based and Qatar-educated for a period of 10 consecutive years, near-completion of Masters or a recent Masters graduate in an energy-related field (degree must have been completed within the past two years), demonstrating potential to be a future thought leader in the energy industry in Qatar, current or planned involvement in energy-related research in Qatar, demonstrating an intention of working in Qatar, extra weight will be given to those with intent to pursue a PhD, and exemplary undergraduate and graduate grades.
