The Losail International Circuit has opened its doors to cyclists, runners, and walkers, who want to practice or train inside the facility until June this year free of charge, it is learnt.
According to its website www.circuitlosail.com, the sports club is urging residents to register for their “2017 training days,” which started on January 4. The circuit opens its gates at 4.45pm and training will continue until 9.30pm.
The ‘Ladies Training Days’ will run until June 13 for at least twice a month. Only boys under nine years old will be allowed inside the track during these sessions.
On January 10, the first day of training for females this year, participants took part in a number of coach-led sessions such as cycling 101, Zumba with curves, and strength training with curves from 6pm to 8pm.
Coach Pia Sundstedt, a Union Cycliste Internationale-certified cycling coach for road and mountain bike (MTB), and a two-time Olympic Games road competitor, offers training session from 6pm to 7pm.
Sundstedt is also a three-time World Cup Overall winner in MTB marathon and bagged three bronze medals at the World Championships and a three-time gold medalist at the European MTB Championships.
Losail said the initiative aims to provide female residents a platform and a suitable venue (largest in Doha) to exercise with privacy, and for them to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
Bicycles and gears are also available at the venue, giving female visitors an option to leave their personal cycles at home. Besides the physical activities, Losail is also hosting yoga lessons, a mini boot camp, and a dedicated area for children. But while using the facility, cyclists are advised to use the track in an anti-clockwise direction, “cycling on the inside of the track, overtaking to the left.”
Runners and walkers must move in a clockwise direction on the outside of the track, between the blue line and fence. “Crossing of the track is not allowed without the safety marshal’s permission.”
Losail said that all cyclists, including small children, must wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes when using the track, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors can do cycling, walking, running or rollerblading for as many laps as they like around the track during the scheduled time.
The trainings are schedules on January 18, 24 (female only), and 25; February 1, 7 (female only), 8, 15, and 28 (female only); March 1, 7 (female only), and 8; April 4 (female only), 5, 18 (female only), 19 and 26; May 2 (female only), 3, 10, 16 (female only), 17, and 24; and June 6 (female only), 7, 13 (female only), and 14.
Visitors can park their vehicles at a dedicated area inside the circuit next to the Paddock restaurant parking. Registration is at Pit Garage 21.
Losail also hosts karting activities at the karting and minimoto tracks from 5pm to 10pm (Thursday and Friday) pegged at QR100 for every 15-minute session.
