The mix of international colleges and universities in Qatar has provided many foreign students wider access to higher learning, as well as new cultural experiences.
Texas A&M University student Brighton Walters Praslicka said he decided to take up a full semester of Electrical Engineering at the institution’s campus in Education City, Qatar, to learn more about the programme and experience other cultures.
“I plan on being an international engineer one day. I have only lived in Texas all my life and only studied at Texas A&M, so I wanted to broaden my horizons and understand electrical engineering from an international scope, as well as learn how different innovations affect different cultures,” he told Gulf Times at Katara – the Cultural Village yesterday.
Praslicka, including other visiting Texas A&M University students, toured Katara for the first time since arriving in the country two days ago.He said a faculty member at the university has been teaching them about Qatar’s culture and heritage and stressed that he “has been learning about Qatari traditions more and more.”
The first exhibition hall, Praslicka visited, featured works of Qatari artist Jameela al-Ansari, whose work entitled ‘Salam Exhibition’ was launched on December 27, 2016 and will run until January 12.
The American student, who has only been in Doha for about two days, said he noticed that some of the photographs featured at Katara’s Youth Hobbies Centre featured women and men of all ages wearing traditional clothing, which made him curious to learn more about what it means to them.
