The three-day honey festival, which began Thursday at Al Mazrouah Yard, under the auspices of the Agricultural Affairs Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), has attracted a larger number of visitors and farms, compared with the previous editions of the event.

The festival is being participated by 130 local farms, which produce honey and other agricultural products of very high quality. When the project was launched in 2012, only 30 farms took part and 50 participated in 2014.
Yousef al-Khelaifi, director of the Agricultural Affairs Department, stressed that the MME has given farmers more support to encourage them to increase their honey production and help them compete with other producers from outside the country.
"The production of honey in Qatar amounts to four tonnes during a single season, which is considered a significant amount compared to the imported products," he stated.
Besides, the MME aims at establishing and enhancing such local farm industries, and supplies farmers with the necessary support. The event will also be held at Al Khor from January 12 to 14, and Al Wakrah from January 19 to 21, from 7am to 5pm.
