The Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s (MEC) technical committee to stimulate private sector participation in economic development projects announced yesterday that the Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) storage area at Bu Sulba is ready for operation and would be inaugurated later.
The storage area, accomplished on schedule, has a total space of 517,375sq m and developed by GWC, a Qatari shareholding company.  Mohamed Hassan al-Saadi, chairman of the committee, said the GWC storage area project would substantially contribute to the economic development of the country in general and the logistic sector in particular.
“In addition to the other storage areas that would be operational afterwards, the Bu Sulba project would provide the market with various types of storage areas including refrigeration and dry storage at competitive rates, it was explained in a statement issued by the MEC.
“The small- and medium-size companies and enterprises would in particular benefit from such rates as well as all companies, as the available storage areas would be of various sizes at different international standards. Besides, the new storage areas would bridge the current gap between supply and demand in this field bringing prices to reasonable rates and accordingly reducing the overall cost of production.”
Sheikh Abdullah bin Fahad bin Jassem bin Jabor al-Thani, GWC chairman, said that the accomplishment of GWC storage area came as a direct outcome of the company’s efforts in the logistic services sector and the desire of the government to support small and medium companies.
Fahad Rashid al-Kaabi, CEO of Manateq Company, said that the logistic storage areas project creates new and major investment opportunities in the private sector. In 2004, the MEC offered four plots of land to create storage areas for the private sector investors.
According to information on the GWC website, the Bu Sulba Logistics Hub is directly in line with the Qatar Government’s wish to support small and medium enterprises with the best in support infrastructure for their operations.
“The Bu Sulba Logistics Hub offers scalable storage solutions that are immediately operational and comply with the best warehousing practices. Within short distance from the New Doha Port, the Hamad International Airport, and the Phase 1 KSA-New Doha Port Rail project, the hub provides every form of logistics service necessary to ensure the success of SMEs and startups.”
