The President of India has sent his greetings to HH the Emir and the friendly people of Qatar on the occasion of the country’s National Day. The Indian embassy in Doha joins him in wishing Qatar and its people long years of well-being and prosperity.
We also convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Government of Qatar for their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the large Indian community in Qatar. Indian nationals in Qatar are making significant contributions to nurture our friendly relations. We take great pride in the contribution made by our people towards the economic progress of Qatar.  I am happy that the Indian community has earned a good name for itself by virtue of its hard work and law-abiding nature.
India-Qatar co-operation in diverse sectors is flourishing within an excellent framework provided by historic relations and regular and substantive engagement, including at the highest levels of the two governments. Three high-level visits during the last two years, including the State visit of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, in March 2015; the visit of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, in June 2016 and the recent visit of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Qatar, to India are testimony to our close bilateral ties. These milestone visits imparted fresh momentum to our deep-rooted multi-faceted co-operation.
The rapid progress made by Qatar in various fields, including education and research; infrastructure; business, finance and investments; sports; travel and tourism; and in other areas is impressive.
It is heartening to note that Qatar is well on course towards achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. India stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Qatar in building a strong, vibrant and diversified economy based on sustainable development.
India also looks forward to co-operation with Qatar in all fields, including for preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, for which an MoU has been signed during the recent visit of HE the Prime Minister of Qatar to India.
Besides official interactions, people-to-people contacts and initiatives by the private sector are energising dialogue and co-operation in various sectors. With its huge and growing energy needs, India greatly values Qatar’s vital partnership in the energy sector. On the other hand, Indian companies are pursuing collaborations in infrastructure, communications and information technology, energy and other areas in Qatar.
The huge potential for significantly increasing Qatar’s investment in India, especially in view of  several flagship initiatives of the Indian Government, also presents a win-win situation for both countries. India offers wide opportunities for Qatari companies for investment as well as to explore possibilities for tourism, including medical tourism.
May I again take this opportunity to congratulate the people and the Government of the State of Qatar on the National Day on December 18, 2016.
