With the onset of winter, The Pearl-Qatar’s Medina Centrale will again be transformed into a pedestrian-friendly district during weekends to boost visitors’ enjoyment of the island’s vibrant town centre.
Medina Centrale will become a vehicle-free zone from December 1 starting at 2pm on Thursday afternoons until Saturday midnight throughout the winter season, United Development Company (UDC) announced in a statement.
“It will enable visiting families to enjoy the cool outdoors and stroll around in safety while taking in the beauty of Medina Centrale’s unique blend of residential, shopping and leisure experiences,” noted UDC, the master developer of The Pearl-Qatar.
Residents and visitors will be encouraged to make use of the six parking blocks allocated around the area in the weekend, providing more than 3,000 public parking spaces which give direct access to Medina Centrale.
To help ease pedestrian movement, golf carts will be deployed to transfer people to and from the parking lots and around Medina Centrale, in addition to the valet parking services.
Medina Centrale has been witnessing an increase in footfall, particularly during the weekends since the opening of retail outlets, including banks, pharmacies, car showrooms, real estate agents and popular restaurant brands, the cinema complex and supermarket.
Later this year, UDC is set to open its most recent offering in Medina Centrale, Souq Al Medina, an indoor shopping complex, which will soon be welcoming an eclectic mix of retailers.
Medina Centrale is a unique blend of residential, shopping and leisure experiences influenced by the charming ambience of the Mediterranean.
A traditional design cleverly combining the nostalgic old-look style with modern convenience, Medina Centrale boasts over 160 retail stores and 40 restaurants and cafés all situated in this vibrant Pearl community.
