Commercial Bank partnered with Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to raise awareness of breast cancer during October to mark the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Conducted under PHCC’s National Breast and Bowel Screening Programme, the workshop was the first of its kind for the banking industry in Qatar – helping increase levels of knowledge and stressing the importance of early screening, Commercial Bank said in a press statement.
The workshop was organised by the bank’s Human Capital, Employee Welfare and Relations Department, which provides guidance services to employees, and part of a series of awareness presentations and activities by PHCC’s National Breast and Bowel Screening Programme that spanned the full month of October.
Dr Sheikha Abu Sheikha, cancer programme manager at PHCC, said: “The National Breast and Bowel Screening Programme is a life-saving, population-based initiative that aims to promote education, awareness and early detection of breast and bowel cancer in Qatar through partnership with both the public and private sectors.”
Commercial Bank regards CSR as being integral to its business in support of the country’s development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the statement notes. The bank “strives to be an outstanding corporate citizen” by supporting local and international socio-economic initiatives that benefit Qatari society as a whole, including humanitarian projects and charitable work for the disadvantaged; educational, training and personal development programmes for Qatari youth; sports and health initiatives; support for Qatari arts and culture; and the bank’s Qatar National Day programmes that celebrate and preserve Qatar’s cultural heritage.
