Katara – the Cultural Village has partnered with nine embassies in Doha to host the third edition of Katara European Jazz Festival starting tomorrow.
“The embassies of France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, along with the embassies of Portugal, Poland and Bulgaria, which are participating for the first time, will bring to Doha one renowned jazz group representing each for the six-day event,” Katara said in a statement.
Musicians will be performing on stage from 7pm to 9.30pm at Katara Building 5 while several workshops are scheduled from 10am at the Qatar Music Academy.
The first day of the festival will see a group of French performers called “Ezza” followed by Italian band “The Golden Circle Quartet.”
Portuguese performers “Trio Mario Laginha” will take the centre stage on Thursday while the German band “Three fall” and Bulgarian performers “Yildiz Ibrahimova Quartet” are set to enthral the spectators on Friday.
The Spanish band “Radio Pesquera” and Austria’s “Namby Pamby Boy” will perform on Saturday.
Sunday will see Swiss performers “Simon Wyrsch Quartet” on stage while Polish band “Atom String Quartet” will conclude the annual event next Monday.
Besides the nine embassies, the six-day festival is also being organised with the support of Qatar Airways, the ‘Official Airline’ for the event; Qatar Music Academy; and FNAC Qatar (Darwish Holding).
Katara, which has been hosting and organising such prestigious events, attracted a large number of people from all walks of life during the last two editions.
Renowned jazz performers from Europe also enthralled and treated spectators at Katara with their music during the previous festivals.
Katara wants to bring cultures together with the hosting of similar cultural events such as the European Jazz Festival. Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti described music as an international language that strengthens cultural relationships between countries.
