Over 2,500 healthcare professionals from Qatar have already registered for the Qatar International Breast Cancer Conference to be held on October 28 and 29, revealed Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor al-Thani, chairman of Qatar Cancer Society.

“The registration is continuing and we have also invited about 200 international delegates,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.

According to Sheikh Khalid, the main focus of the conference will be on the latest development in the treatment of breast cancer as well as the preventive steps to be taken against breast cancer.
“The conference will provide a process that promotes quality health care for breast cancer patients and access to the latest developments of prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment information,” he highlighted.
“There will be a number of workshops on these aspects. In addition, the conference will focus on two areas mainly; psychological support for the patients as well as early detection. It will discuss various methods of treatment including the new developments in breast cancer immunotherapy,” he explained.
Sheikh Khalid observed that the incidence of breast cancer is still on the rise in the country. “The major factor is the increase of population in Qatar. Age-wise incidence is more as people getting older and they are affected by the disease. There are also environmental and lifestyle issues which are responsible for the disease.”
“However, it is not alarming. It is still within control and just like any another country in the world, it is one of the leading types of cancer in Qatar. We have made great progress in combating the disease but still a lot has to be done in conquering it. There have been rarely any cases of male breast cancer with only three in the last 15 years,” he added.
The conference is also approved by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Professionals for CPD points valid for 7.25 credit hours. The registration fee for doctors is QR150 and QR 100 for other healthcare professionals.
