The inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has been held at the university’s headquarters within Education City.
In attendance for the first meeting of the Board was HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
The new board, which is chaired by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, comprises leaders from the fields of education, government and the private sector, both from Qatar and overseas and is tasked with taking a leading role in guiding the future direction of the university.
During the meeting, which took place on October 9, the board formally approved HBKU’s 10-year strategic plan, policies and procedures, and its revised brand identity, which reflects the university’s significant recent expansion.
HE Sheikha Hind said: “The key strength of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Board of Trustees is the diversity of experience and expertise each member offers. The Board will guide and support HBKU in its major strategic decisions. As a young institution, HBKU has the ability to build its legacy while still being agile and adaptable to ever-changing needs.”
“The new board will have a pivotal responsibility in ensuring that HBKU plays an active role as a knowledge provider in Qatar and the region, as well as acting as an agent of positive change by focusing on the development of human capital and diversifying the economy through its research efforts,” she added.
The formation of the university’s Board of Trustees is an important step in the development of HBKU which has a vision to be a leading regional institution in education and research as well as a catalyst for positive change. HBKU’s integrated academic programmes, strategic partnerships, and national research capabilities seek to help propel Qatar’s knowledge-based economy and shape novel solutions that have global impact.
