Registration for winter camping season for Qataris during 2016-2017 is set to start on Sunday and would remain open until November 17.
Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announced yesterday that the winter camping season is from November 1 to April 15.
Khalaf Ajlan al-Anzi, MME’s director of Public Relations and Communications Department, said that during the upcoming season MME for the first time would allow campers to plant wild trees at the camping areas, with five trees maximum per camper.
Saleem al-Safran, MME’s director Environment Protection, Protectorates and Wildlife Department, pointed out that the previous winter camping was highly successful with violations dropping to less than 10 violations among 2,058 campers at 20 different locations around the country.
He also said that 128 persons were blacklisted from the two previous camping seasons. Regarding the terms and conditions for applications, he said that each Qatari citizen, at least 25 years old, has the right to a camping permit. Each applicant should pay a security deposit of QR10,000, completely refundable when abiding by the set terms and conditions until the conclusion of the season. The official also stressed that there will be inspectors to check for violations and they must be given access to each camp.
