The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) welcomed a new batch of future healthcare professionals to its campus in Al Rayyan as the fall semester started on August 28.
Nearly two-thirds of the incoming students, for UCQ’s gold-standard Bachelor of Nursing (BN) programmes, are Qataris or were born in Qatar.
Preparations for the start of the academic year kicked off with UCQ’s new student orientation, which took place on August 24 and 25.The incoming class met with the faculty and toured UCQ’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Learning Commons, a resource hub for students, and the Clinical Simulation Centre, where students practice patient care in a simulated hospital environment.
“Our new students chose UCQ’s nursing education because they are passionate about improving lives and strengthening patient care here in Qatar,” noted Dr Deborah White, dean and CEO of UCQ.
“In the years to come, our mission as nursing educators is to equip these students with the knowledge and skills they will need to deliver world-class healthcare in Qatar.
“We strive to ensure that every student is prepared to excel professionally, as well as provide for the well-being of their family and community.”
As Qatar’s sole provider of nursing education, UCQ has educated hundreds of nurses since 2007 contributing to the country’s growing healthcare sector.
With the addition of the BN students, UCQ’s total enrolment is over 500.
UCQ also offers Master of Nursing degrees.
