Shaikha Saad al-Qahtani, an electrical and computer engineering student at Texas A&M University-Qatar, won the first prize in the annual RasGas ‘Summer Internship Star Competition 2016.’
She developed a programme to extract and classify security events based on criticality within RasGas’ Distributed Control System.
The competition marked the completion of RasGas’ ‘11th Summer Internship Programme.’ The annual programme provides a practical environment where students can learn about the business needs of the oil and gas industry.
“I am pleased to see yet another group of such promising individuals participate in this programme,” said RasGas CEO Hamad Mubarak al-Muhannadi.
Al-Qahtani was joined in the final round of the competition by runner-up Noora Mubarak al-Khalfan, an industrial and systems engineering student at Qatar University, whose project involved achieving efficiency by empowering employees to perform pre-specified maintenance tasks.
Mohamed al-Mansouri, an electrical and computer engineering student at Texas A&M University-Qatar, earned third place for his work on a cost optimisation transformer copper corrosion project.
