The Al Khor slaughterhouse has started receiving customers ahead of Eid al-Adha and preparations have been made to cope with the expected surge in demand, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said yesterday.
The Health Control Unit at Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality is providing necessary services, including an adequate number of veterinarians who will work from 5am until 5pm daily, including the Eid days, to ensure the safety of the products on display.
Meanwhile, the Health Control Section at Doha Municipality yesterday carried out a search operation to ensure that food items stored in a residential building —by the operators of a supermarket in Al Sadd — had been removed.
Legal action was taken against the supermarket last month after it was found violating regulations by storing food items in a workers’ housing unit, as reported in Gulf Times.
During yesterday’s follow-up inspection, it was found that the food products stored there had been removed and the rest was being destroyed, the MME said in a statement.
The General Cleanliness Department at the MME also conducted a clean-up campaign at a number of islands and beaches last week.
The campaign covered the Doha Corniche and port, where several discarded materials, empty cans and debris comprising wood, iron and plastic were removed. The authorities also put up warning notices to remove abandoned trailers and boats.
Similarly, the Al Wakrah beach and fish market were cleaned and discarded fishing nets were removed from the area in addition to pieces of wood and iron pipes. Also, Ras Al Nasa, the navigation port and Al Corniche were cleared of debris and garbage.
In addition, Al Khor wildlife patrols, in co-operation with the Coast Guard, detected a violation during an inspection campaign when it found nylon nets being used for fishing purposes. The nets were seized.
