The mercury level soared to 48C in Qatar and another day of high temperatures is expected on Friday, the Met department has said.
It is also likely to be humid by night, according to the weather report.
Batna and Turayna recorded the highest temperature in the country at 48C, followed by 47C in the Qatar University area, Sheehaniya, Al Rayyan, Karana and Jumayliyah, and 46C in the Doha airport area, Abu Samra and Ghuwairiyah.
The Met department tweeted afternoon that temperatures were hovering around the mid-40C levels “in Doha and most areas of the country,” advising people to avoid direct sunlight.
The detailed forecast for inshore areas today says hazy to misty conditions are expected in some places at first, followed by a hot day with some clouds.
It will be relatively humid by night.
Hazy to misty conditions are also likely in offshore areas at times.
The maximum temperature today is expected to be 45C in Abu Samra and 44C in Doha, Al Khor, Messaied and Wakrah.
Meanwhile, the forecast for the weekend showed that there is a chance of rain in the central parts of Qatar by Saturday afternoon.
