Malabar Gold & Diamonds has said it is enhancing its jewellery manufacturing capacity in Qatar by expanding facilities at its Al Nazha Gold Jewellery Factory in Doha’s Ain Khaled area.
The expansion includes renovation of the factory, which started operations in 2013, and addition of latest machinery in order to meet gold jewellery requirements in Qatar, the company has said in a press statement.
The renovated and expanded factory was jointly inaugurated by Shamlal Ahamed, managing director of international operations, Malabar Gold & Diamonds; and Abdul Salam K P, Group executive director, Malabar Group; in the presence of Faizal A K, corporate executive director, Malabar Group; Santhosh T V, regional director; other directors, dignitaries and well-wishers.
Starting with 15 employees and a limited production of 360kg, Al Nazha Gold Jewellery Factory has today reached a production capacity of 960kg with about 40 employees running the factory. The factory is the fourth of its kind by Malabar Gold & Diamonds in the GCC region and 11th globally. 
Under the plans, the expected production capacity will be about 2,400kg of gold jewellery per year worth about QR357mn, aiming to deliver good-quality products on time to customers in Qatar, the company has stressed.
The staff strength at the factory will also increase to 50 employees as part of the expansion. 
The different departments within the factory include casting, handmade jewellery, chain, bracelet and ring production, Kolkata jewellery, machine made chains, ball making, melting, diamond cutting, polishing and stone setting.
To meet the existing jewellery requirements, Al Nazha Gold Jewellery factory has decided to expand its production to cover a variety of designs and styles by adding latest technologies such as computerised numeric control (CNC). 
The factory covers around 2,000sqft and an additional 1,100sqft is to be acquired as part of the expansion.
