A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Filipino expatriate to three years in jail for drug peddling.

According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the court also directed him to pay a fine of QR200,000 and ordered his deportation upon serving the sentence.

The court found the man guilty of using his accommodation to trade in illicit drugs. It was found that amphetamine was sold from there as well as consumed, the daily said.

The Drug Prevention Department at the Ministry of Interior learnt about the matter when one of their sources reported the suspicious activities of the defendant in Doha's Mansoura area.

Accordingly, the undercover source was instructed to approach the defendant. The two parties agreed that the source would buy some drugs from the defendant for a sum of QR950.

The source then followed the defendant to his apartment at the designated time, to get the drugs. This was when the police raided the place and searched it.

The contraband was found in the house along with some tools. During interrogation, the defendant admitted to owning and circulating drugs.
