The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation has announced its award of a 2016 Fellowship to Qatar’s Asma al-Khulaifi at a luncheon in Washington, DC.
Al-Khulaifi will be the foundation’s third fellow from Qatar. She will fulfil her fellowship by working with Education Above All (EAA) over the course of this
summer.
EAA is an initiative founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. The organisation’s aim is to build a global movement that contributes to human, social and economic development through education.
John Oberdorfer, the foundation’s president, noted: “Our foundation is a unique nonprofit organisation that has supported some 190 law students. The foundation is rooted in the belief that future lawyers benefit from public service experience. Asma’s fellowship at Education Above All will do just that.
Charbel Maakaron, office managing partner of Doha, added: “Qatari students were our first international fellows and we’re delighted to welcome Asma to that exceptional group of law students.”
Al-Khulaifi completed her undergraduate degree in Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Qatar before commencing a Juris Doctor degree at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. She has been involved in numerous youth advocacy initiatives, including the United Nations Doha Youth Forum on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
