HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani-owned Rawah won the Prix Nefta (Gr2 PA) at Bordeaux on Monday.
The filly cantered in second position and found herself battling against the Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed al-Nahyan-owned Mabrooka in the final phase. She finally took the advantage by a short head, maintaining her unbeaten status after three runs. She had already won this race last year.
“She did not work that much,” said Rawah’s trainer, Francois Rohaut. “She only arrived a month and a half ago from Haras de Saubouas. She showed what she is capable of. We did not think we could defeat Mabrooka even though we knew she would run a race in which you needed a little strategy. Francois-Xavier Bertras rode a good race. She is very good, that’s it. We will follow the program gently. Anyway, there won’t be a lot of possibilities for her. It’s good, with such a filly, it’s easy.”
