Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) has won the ‘Crystal Award for Supporting Qatarisation’ at the annual Qatarisation Review Meeting of the energy and industry sector's Strategic Qatarisation Plan.

With this, the company has once again been recognised for its continued commitment to supporting the nation's Qatarisation strategy, it has said in a statement.

The event was attended by senior industry dignitaries and officials, including HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Qatar Petroleum (QP) president and CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi and MOQ deputy managing director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani, who accepted the award for Maersk Oil Qatar.

‘We are extremely proud to receive this award as a testament to our tireless focus on Qatarisation and in recognition of our successful efforts to attract and develop the leaders and specialists that will unlock the potential of Qatar’s national resources for generations to come,’ Sheikh Faisal said.

In close partnership with QP, MOQ operates the Al Shaheen field, Qatar's largest offshore oilfield development. In 2014, the company launched a new Qatarisation Strategy focused not only on attracting Qatari nationals, particularly to offshore roles, but also to develop leadership capacity via mentoring and bespoke training courses and through the provision of further educational opportunities, such as MBAs.

MOQ has made since ‘made firm progress, not only reaching, but exceeding many of its targets with Qatari nationals making up 30% of the company’s employees of whom 11% are in leadership positions’, the statement notes.

Moza al-Naimi, head of Qatarisation at MOQ, said: ‘Winning this award will inspire us to continue to develop and provide the right programmes, support and learning opportunities to enable employees to reach their career goals while also supporting those of the country’s Strategic Qatarisation Plan and Qatar National Vision 2030.’

In addition to the company’s recruitment and development efforts, MOQ has implemented a number of outreach programmes to inspire the next generation to pursue rewarding careers in the energy industry. These include working with the education sector to promote an understanding of the oil and gas industry and to encourage Qatar’s youth to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines.
