Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) director-general Jose Graziano da Silva has met with Qatar’s ambassador to Italy, Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Malki al-Jehani, who is also Qatar’s permanent representative to UN agencies in Rome.
The ambassador expressed Qatar’s support to FAO in its efforts to combat poverty, hunger and food shortage, as well as to its development policies.
He stressed the importance of developing co-operation between Qatar and the organisation, particularly on the issues of water, soil reclamation, climate change, plant
protection, research, and field studies.
The FAO director-general voiced his appreciation for Qatar’s role in the organisation and its constant financial and technical support to FAO policies and programmes across many countries.
He added that he looked forward to reviewing a group of UN activities that the organisation could do in Doha, especially in training, management and holding
workshops.
Al-Jehani is leading Qatar’s delegation to the 33rd session of FAO’s regional conference for the Near East, which concluded in Rome yesterday.
