Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) has hosted an event for the students accepted into its class of 2020.
The students, who will join NU-Q in September, have shown outstanding performance across academic as well as extra-curricular, athletic and social activities, the university said yesterday in a statement.

Adding to NU-Q’s rich and diverse community, the class of students accepted this year represent 30 countries from around the world, spanning six continents. Showing a continued trend on last year, NU-Q will once again welcome a strong representation of Qatari students, with almost half of the class being Qatar nationals.
“We are delighted to welcome a class with such outstanding academic and extra-curricular qualifications,” said Everette E Dennis, dean and CEO of NU-Q. “These students bring to NU-Q a variety of achievements - from class presidents to accomplished athletes, as well as film festival award winners. We are proud these students have chosen NU-Q as their college of choice, and look forward to working with them to further develop their skills.
“We are pleased to once again have a strong representation of Qataris within this class, as we continue to honour the importance of communication, media and journalism in Qatar’s national development.”
In addition to a strong representation from Qatar, the students accepted come from countries around the world, including Morocco, Tunisia, Pakistan, Taiwan, China, Jordan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Sudan, Oman, US, India, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
The class of 2020 will join a worldwide network of more than 200,000 Northwestern alumni. Graduates of NU-Q hold positions with leading organisations in the region,  including Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, Qatar Media Corporation, Emiri Diwan, Doha Film Institute, Qatar Museums, Hamad hospital, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Airways, Qatar Foundation, RasGas and Total E&P.
In addition, 25% of NU-Q graduates pursue graduate degrees at leading universities, including Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Cornell, Northwestern and London School of Economics, among others.
A future member of the class of 2020 said, “NU-Q has a fantastic reputation globally and regionally with its commitment to teaching, innovative research and the personal intellectual growth of students within a dynamic academic community. I look forward to perusing my academic career here and meeting my fellow students in September.”
