Empower 2016, the youth conference organised by Reach Out To Asia (Rota) under the theme ‘Innovation in Youth Social Entrepreneurship’, will start from tomorrow.
The conference, being held at the Student Centre at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Education City, will involve more than 450 young men and women aged between 17 to 30 years, including international participants.
HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairperson of Rota, will inaugurate the conference at 9am with the participation of HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, Rota board member and Essa al-Mannai, Rota executive director.
Over the first and the second day of the conference, 48 workshops and two panel discussions will be held for participants to learn about the concepts of crowdfunding, innovation in product creation, entrepreneurship and the power of social networking, among other topics.
On the third day, the participants will be given a tour of some of Qatar Foundation’s academic institutions, including Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, where they will have the opportunity to practise the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshops. They will also visit Qatar Incubation Business Centre and Qatar Scientific Club, and will participate in a set of activities facilitated by the UN Development Programme at the Student Centre.
The conference will serve as a discussion forum, where participants will be asked to devise solutions to increase the contribution of youth in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Qatar National Vision 2030, using the youth social entrepreneurship business methodology.
The map, schedule and workshop details of the conference, as well as the latest news on social media networks, can be accessed through the Empower 2016 mobile app, which was developed by Anas Hasanain, a Rota volunteer. It is available for download on iPhone’s App store.
Rota has partnered with Qatar Charity (humanitarian partner), the Qatar Financial Centre (private sector partner), and the Qatar National Convention Centre (hospitality partner) to sponsor Empower 2016.
