A Doha criminal court has sentenced a jeweller to six months in jail and imposed a fine of QR10,000 on him for buying stolen jewellery.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Monday that the defendant was convicted by the court for failing to follow the proper legal procedures to buy gold products and jewellery.
The inspectors of the entities concerned found the stolen products displayed at the defendant's shop during a routine inspection campaign.
They asked the defendant to produce documents in proof of his purchase of such items and checked the records in the shop, but could not find any.
Later, he was issued a violation and the court convicted him.
