He was accompanied by Khalid Mohamed al- Emadi, CEO, Medicare Group QSC and Al-Ahli Hospital, Dr. Abdul Azim Abdul Wahab Hussain, medical director of Al-Ahli Hospital

and various other officials of the hospital.

Speaking to Gulf Times, Dr. Nabil M Tarazi, director of Fertility and Genetics Centre, said that the whole procedure of IVF treatment will take about two weeks to be completed.

He explained ‘The preparatory process takes about a week to ten days to get the patient prepared for the treatment. Then it will be another 3-4 days for the embryo transfer and the whole procedure will be completed in about two weeks time.’

He continued, ‘We expect to have about 40-50 patients daily for consultation. Surgery can be done on 8-10 people per day.We might expand the services in the course of time.’

The official observed ‘We had the soft launch today. To begin with, we expect to have about 30-40 operations per month. We will announce it formally and we expect the number of visitors to go up.We have a good number of patients asking for consultations, treatment and looking for solutions to overcome the issue of infertility.’

Dr. Tarazi pointed out that Al-Ahli will provide all the facilities under one umbrella. ‘At Al -Ahli, we will accommodate the patients, have their consultations, perform the operations here, provide the results and they will have a full package. We have made all the arrangements and everything has been set up.Soon we will start the implementation of the programme. We plan this facility not just for Qatar. We are aiming at the wider region, outside country.’

The official noted that the cost for the whole procedure is comparatively lesser than what is charged at the neighbouring countries. ‘We have the cost as per the approval of the Ministry of Health. We charge about QR 18000 for the whole procedure. It is lesser than many of the neighbouring countries,’ he said.

According to Dr. Tarazi, it is estimated that there is about 10-15% of the people in general suffer from such problems. ‘It is not that all of them need IVF treatment. IVF is just one of the options. There are several other options. IVF generally provides 40-45% success rate. With the new techniques that we have adopted, it can be increased to 60-65%. Our hope is to have such a success rate,’ he added.
