Dr Hamad al-Ibrahim, executive vice president of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), has been appointed chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP).
The announcement was made by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
As a member of QF, QSTP aims to deliver economic diversification and home-grown technologies that benefit Qatar and the rest of the world.
The decision has been taken to enhance research and innovation, while supporting QF’s mission of creating a knowledge-based economy.
It was also announced that Dr Hassan al-Derham, president of Qatar University; Abdulaziz bin Nasser al-Khalifa, CEO of Qatar Development Bank; Fahad bin Hamad al-Mohannadi, general manager of Qatar Electricity & Water Company; Dr Nasser S al-Mohannadi, manager of Research and Technology Centre at Qatar Petroleum; Robert Nelsen, co-founder and  managing director of ARCH Venture Partners; and Pekka Soini, director general of Tekes, all board members of QSTP, will remain in place for another three years.
Home to more than 40 multinational companies including General Electric, Microsoft, Siemens, Shell, ExxonMobil, Maersk and Qatar Petroleum, QSTP comprises 45,000sq m of offices, laboratories, and business facilities on 120 hectares of designated land.
