Qatar's population, which had fallen between November and December last year by nearly 42,000, has shown a marginal rise, figures issued by the statistics authorities show.
The country's population includes only those permanent residents who are within its geographical boundaries when the figures are announced.
According to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, which released the latest figures on Monday, the country houses 2,423,000 residents which was at least 8.9% more than the population for the corresponding period last year.
The January 31 figures shows a modest rise of 2,000 people compared to the population on December 31. The latest figure is 2,423,000 while at the end of December there were 2,421,000 residents in the country.
Qatar's highest ever population was recorded on November 30,2015 when there were 2,463,000 people in the country. Compared to the figures of the previous month, there was a rise of 51,000 residents during the one-month period, it was announced.
In fact the population touched the 2.4mn mark for the first time in October last year, it was reported earlier.
There has been a four-fold rise in the country's population in the last 13 years, the growth being the highest in terms of percentage.
