A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a GCC national in absentia to life imprisonment, a fine of QR300,000, and deportation upon serving his sentence.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that convict was accused of smuggling drugs into the country, in addition to drug abuse. He was arrested at Abu Samra land border while trying to drive into Qatar. The custom officers suspected him and ordered a thorough search of his vehicle, leading to the discovery of 116.94gms of hashish and 6,010 Captagon pills.
When taken for a blood test, it was proven that he had taken hashish. The court convicted the man based on the witness of the two custom officers who spotted him, the medical report based on his blood test and his confession that the drugs in the car belonged to him.
