HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada and Qatar Petroleum CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi being welcomed by Stephen Kelly.

 

Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Limited (Oxy Qatar) was principal sponsor of the recently held International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) and took part in the exhibition at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Oxy Qatar was also platinum sponsor of the IPTC Young Members participating in the IPTC International Education Summit in conjunction with the ninth IPTC.
Stephen Kelly, president and general manager of Oxy Qatar, addressed more than 70 Young Members during the opening of the Education Summit. He presented Occidental’s corporate highlights, regional operations summary and a brief on local social responsibility investments, among other information.
“This was a great opportunity for sponsor companies to share with students a range of perspectives on how the oil and gas industry offers diverse and exciting challenges to any young professional considering paths to follow in the coming years,” said Kelly.
Oxy Qatar’s employees also contributed to other aspects of the IPTC. Saeed al-Kuwari, senior geologist, hosted and led a university students’ geological trip assisted by Abdullah Taha, reservoir engineer, to the Dhal Al Mesfer sinkhole to give an overview of the geological setting of Qatar and visit a cave representing the castification phenomena in Qatar, which is associated with a sinkhole forming a cave.  
Rucsandra Maria Corbeanu, geologist, chaired a session of the conference about diagenetic controls on reservoir heterogeneities. Sara al-Said, reservoir engineer, serves as IPTC’s Young Professionals Programme committee member and High School programme moderator.
Walid Abou Elnour, petrophysicist, presented a paper titled “Uncertainties in Fracture Apertures Calculated from Electrical Borehole Images” and an ePoster presentation on the topic. Issa al-Sulaiti and Anessa al-Saigal, both production engineers, attended the IPTC Young Professionals workshops.
