Qatar Stars League (QSL) outfit Al Arabi will continue to target the top four bracket when the league ends next April, this was said by club Secretary General  Dr Ahmed al-Emadi.
On Sunday, Al Arabi stumbled against Al Sailiya during their round 13 game in QSL but al-Emadi refused to say his side was stuttering.
“The main aim of the football team still to be among the top four teams,” al-Emadi said in an interview yesterday.
“We are also looking at one of the current season’s titles such as Qatar Cup or the Emir Cup. We have put emphasis on this aim before with the head coach as well,” al-Emadi added.
Coached by Gianfranco Zola, the former Chelsea manager, Al Arabi are fourth spot despite Sunday’s loss.
“We are in good shape. We have had some off days but many other top teams have lost too,” al-Emadi said.
“Many teams have lost on several occasions just like Al Arabi have. I believe the injuries is the main cause of such defeats.
“We have noticed that a number of the big teams lost their recent games. Only exceptions is Al Rayyan in terms of both the technical and physical aspects,” al-Emadi said.
Al-Emadi added that despite the defeat to Al Sailiya, the team’s performance was ‘quite good comparing to their other games in the league’.
He reiterated that he isn’t worried about the recent results as he has huge confidence in Al Arabi’s ability to surge ahead in the title race.
Commenting on whether there is an intention to support the team with new players during the transfer window in winter, al-Emadi said yesterday: “This matter is in the hands of the technical staff led by the head coach, who will determine the needs of his team during the coming period. Also the technical staff asses the performance of all players whether locals or foreigners.”
Al-Emadi pointed out Al Arabi is much a different side this season. He said: “We have presented some distinguished performances in most of our games with exception to the El Jaish clash. The main reasons for the odd bad results are the injuries to key players.”
When asked about the round 14 clash against Al Wakrah, al-Emadi said: “There is no doubt that it is going to be a tough game. It represents the start of the second leg in QSL”
He added: “We hope we can both the next two games - the clash against Al Wakrah and Al Khor.”
