Twenty-two successful teams from universities in Qatar have made it through the semi-finals and are ready for the Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2015 Universities Grand Final competition, which will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre on November 28.
Enterprise Challenge Qatar is an annual competition that encourages and inspires the entrepreneurial spirit among young people in Qatar. The competition was launched in October, reaching out to more than 1,000 students from schools and universities from across Qatar.
The successful teams belong to the 13 participating universities such as Qatar University, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, College of the North Atlantic - Qatar, Stenden University Qatar, Academic Bridge Programme-Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Georgetown University in Qatar, Community College Qatar, University of Calgary in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and University College London Qatar.
The teams that have qualified for the Universities Grand Finals will compete on an entrepreneurship computer simulation that seeks to evaluate the teams’ performance on running their business in a competitive marketplace over a three-year period.
In addition, the six top teams, with the highest net profit scores, will present their sustainable business pitches to a panel of judges to select three winning teams.
In 2014, Enterprise Challenge Qatar received special praise and recognition during the UK Mentor of the Year Awards hosted by the Prince of Wales at Sandringham Palace in the UK.
Earlier this year, Qatar Shell and Bedaya also won Social Development Centre’s Reyada Outstanding Entrepreneurial Support Award for their role in supporting Qatari entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises, including through Enterprise Challenge Qatar.
The Enterprise Challenge programme was created by Mosaic, a UK-based not-for-profit organisation established by the Prince of Wales in 2007, with a range of mentoring programmes aimed at fostering opportunities for young people.
